I can speak a little Mandarin.

wǒ huì shuō yì diǎnr pǔ tōng huà.

pronunciation

woh-hway-shwuh-ee-dee-are-poo-tung-hwa

Notes

  • rising, falling, and then mostly neutral intonation
  • The hwa is nice and breathy — like you’re blowing out a candle.
  • The diǎnr should be slightly drawn out. It rises, falls, and then rises again. The “n” is essentially silent.
  • Broken up it’s dissected as:
    • wǒ huì shuō or “I can speak”
    • yì diǎnr or “a little”
    • pǔ tōng huà or “Mandarin / the common language”
